LONDON (Reuters) - A British woman described by police as "every man's nightmare" was jailed for life Monday for murdering her second husband on his birthday -- probably by poisoning his curry. Police reopened their inquiry into the 1994 death of Julian Webb after his wife Dena Thompson went on trial in 2000 for trying to murder her third husband during a bondage sex session. Thompson, dubbed "The Black Widow," was acquitted of the attempted murder of her third husband, but police exhumed the body of Webb. He had died from an overdose of aspirin and the anti-depressant dothiepin. "Dothiepin is a drug with a bitter taste and it would be hard to administer it to someone unless it was disguised in some way," said Michael Birnbaum, prosecuting. "And one way of disguising it would be in a hot curry." After Webb's death, Thompson phoned a friend in America and said he had become ill after eating a very hot curry on his 31st birthday, the Old Bailey court heard. Detectives estimated that Thompson, 43, had conned men she met through lonely hearts adverts out of 500,000 pounds ($871,700). "Quite frankly this woman is every man's nightmare," Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Underhill said outside the court. "Men can sleep safe tonight knowing she has been taken off the streets." During her trial in 2000 for the attempted murder of her third husband Richard Thompson, he told how she had hit him over the head with a baseball bat and stabbed him with a carving knife while he lay naked, bound and gagged.
